Today was officially the first day of the Techno Classica Essen and, of course, Gents Barn was also there, maintained the network and received the latest information on the classic car market – first forecast: The vintage car industry is doing amazingly well, all the halls were packed and customers are ready to pay a fair price for good quality. Many cars had already changed hands on the preview day as well as today, especially in the Youngtimer (1980s and up) segment. Finally, thanks to a friendly invitation from the management, we were able to attend the local RM Sotheby’s auction – again, the high quality cars quickly changed hands. We are curious how the next days will be, but it was a good start to the season. See you soon – here at Gents Barn.
After more than 16 months of restoration and reconstruction, our legendary Gar Wood Speedster “Miss Persia” was once again a gem at a boat show, this time the 50th edition of Boot Düsseldorf, the world’s largest trade fair for boats and water sports. Almost 83 years after our Speedster was Gar Wood’s show boat at North America’s premier trade show of the Thirties, the Chicago Boat Show of 1936, we can once again presented the new hull and beautiful deck structure – along with some of the original chrome attachments – to the more than interested crowd. A true jewel and a shining example of a 100% faithful reconstruction and restoration. Thanks for visiting us and our trusted shipyard!
Right at the beginning of this year, we got some great news – Boot Düsseldorf is giving our legendary and unique Miss Persia, the only Gar Wood Speedster produced in 1936 and the former boat of the Shah of Iran, a special place at its anniversary fair, the 50th edition of this world leading trade fair for boats and water sports!
Almost exactly 83 years after its first exhibition at the 1936 Chicago Boat Show, Miss Persia is now – although not yet completely assembled, but with dozens of layers of fresh varnish – for the second time at one of the world’s largest boat fairs, what an honor.
So if you’ve ever wanted to see the resurrection of the Miss Persia up close, you can do so now – in the “classic boat” hall 5, booth B02, both our Miss Persia and our future replacement engine, the Packard 1M-245, will be featured throughout the fair. Of course, we are very happy about this great sign from the fair organizers and thank them in advance.
If you would like to get to know the proud owner and Gents Barn founder in person, you can meet him on the first day of the fair, January 19th.
See you soon – at Boot Düsseldorf, open from 19.-27. January 2019.
Dear Gents Barn & Ladies Cottage Fans,
We wish you all a wonderful, healthy and happy New Year!
With a look at 2019 we can only tell you – stay tuned, because in the next months we will visit many events and fairs – and we start directly in a few days. More about this soon.
All the best to you and your families,
Your Gents Barn & Ladies Cottage Team
It’s been a real pleasure opening the mail today! Brooke Hartle, librarian at the Antique Boat Museum, was so kind to send us a copy of the latest Gazette, ABM’s own news magazine – and seeing our great little story from Miss Persia in it. What a nice way of celebrating the first advent. Have a joyful pre-Christmas time everyone.
Although many recreational captains and hobby skippers do not enjoy water or land in winter, there are plenty of things to enjoy at Gents Barn this Christmas – our original Gar Wood Speedster, the legendary Miss Persia, has reached the important phase of painting. It is now slowly revealing exactly the views, as it came out of the factory in Marysville, MI, USA at Gar Wood Inc. – well, let’s rather say in the finest manufacturing work and in many hours this beauty was created by master craftsmen. Only fourteen Speedsters were built and just half of them survived – our Speedster has long been lost, but the multi-year, very hard and international search was worthwhile. Be curious about what will happen over the Christmas holidays and return to the public in Spring 2019 – our legendary Miss Persia will amaze you for sure.
There are only about four weeks until Christmas and one or the other is already looking for a nice gift for his loved ones – we recommend of course a visit to our showroom: Whether antique, high-gloss fire extinguishers from the 30s to 50s, the latest fashion by Holebrook Sweden, fascinating reading material by Delius Klasing or all-natural perfume by April Aromatics, we always have the right idea for you! The most beautiful present for us is currently being created in one of the best restoration workshops for mahogany boats in Germany! Look forward to the resurrection of Miss Persia – the Gar Wood Speedster delivered to the Shah of Persia in 1936. No matter which gift you choose, we wish our customers and interested parties a wonderful Advent season – see you soon, here at beautiful Möhler Castle.
All friends of Scandinavian fashion should visit our store these coming Saturdays – the new Fall / Winter collection 2018 has arrived! Wonderful colours such as “Oak Melange” or “Sand Melange” set the scene for the colder days and if – after a very long, hot summer – it gets really freezing outside, the popular Holebrook knee socks will come right handy – the so-called “snowflake socks” speak for themselves. So, see you soon in our Holebrook-corners for Ladies and Gents here at Ladies Cottage & Gents Barn.
